There are three methods of soil layer drilling: mechanical impact drilling, rotary drilling, and static pressure soil sampling drilling.

① Mechanical percussion drilling. Generally, valveless percussion pipe drills are used. When detecting clay or loam, a dry drill can be used. When drilling in layers of proven soil layers and below the groundwater level, the drilling footage should not be too large to improve the sampling quality.

② Rotary drilling. In strata such as clay, silt, artificial fill, and sand that are not prone to hole collapse above the groundwater level, the rotary dry drilling method using a single pipe drill tool with a frame-type cemented carbide drill bit is used. In the soil layer below the groundwater level, rotary dry drilling with single pipe drilling tools can be used, or circulating drilling with flushing fluid can be used. In the silt layer, a single drilling tool with a rib-type cemented carbide drill bit can be used for drilling, dense mud circulation, and dry drilling method for coring; It is also possible to drill with a double-acting double pipe drill tool and a carbide valve drill bit.

③ Static pressure soil sampling drilling. The rapid continuous static pressure penetration sampler shall be used

General requirements for taking undisturbed soil samples:

① When using an open-type soil sampler, the check valve on its head should be kept clean, with smooth forward drainage and exhaust holes, and effective reverse sealing.

② When using a piston-type soil sampler, the locking position of the piston rod should be kept clean, and functioning properly, the piston should be moderately tight, and the seal should be effective.

③ Undisturbed soil samples shall be taken above the groundwater level, and a dry drilling method should be used for drilling. When the soil is relatively hard, a double-tube rotary soil sampler can be used to drill and sample simultaneously.

④ When drilling in saturated soft clay, clay, and sand, mud or casing wall protection can be used.
